History

The company that eventually became Wise Construction, Inc. started in 1971. We were involved in the grain bin moving business at that time, primarily moving used grain bins from U.S. Government bin sites to farm locations. This led to becoming dealers for grain bin companies as well as erecting grain storage facilities as subcontractors in the states of Kansas, Nebraska, Texas, Oklahoma and Colorado. As time progressed we added metal buildings to our line of work and continued to subcontract our services. On one project in Oklahoma, the customer wanted a metal building constructed over the top of two grain bins!

Throughout the first several years we were gradually able to build a large enough customer base in our local area to be able to keep our employees at home instead of being on the road. We still occasionally contract projects out of our area, but generally stay within the North Central Kansas area.

In the early days, our office consisted of a card table and a file cabinet in the basement of our home. Not impressive, but affordable! We were finally able to purchase a small building at 731 Wisconsin in Cawker City, our first “real” office and shop.

A few years later, we bought a larger building at 819 Lake Drive that gave us even more office/shop space, and we added a metal building salesman and a part-time bookkeeping assistant to our office staff. In October of 2001, we again made a move to our current location at 604 Wisconsin St. in Cawker City. This property was originally built as a farm equipment dealership and had plenty of office space as well as a large shop area for our growing business. We remodeled the interior to include several offices and a conference room. An empty lot across the street gave us room to build a warehouse and parking space for large trucks and equipment. In 2009 we added another salesman to our office staff to help with sales of grain bins and grain handling equipment.
